La Cantera Resort, San Antonio
When it comes to resort hotels, Texas has lots to offer! We’ve tried several over the past few years and La Cantera Resort and Spa is at the top of our list. Whether you are looking for an adults only getaway or place for the whole family, La Cantera is your place!
What to do — Grab a book and head to the pool or the lounge for some relaxing quiet time, book a treatment at Loma de Vida Spa (I had the sports massage and it was amazing!), do a little retail therapy at The Shops at La Cantera, hit the tennis courts, play pickle ball, workout on your own at the fitness center or sign up for a class, or golf at one of the resort’s two beautiful 18-hole courses. The guys on our trip played at the more challenging Palmer Course and came back raving about it!
Whether you are looking to lounge or stay active, there are so many great ways to fill your day(s).
Dining- The resort has 3 full service restaurants, a great bar, a juice bar, and a place to grab a quick bite on the go. The free shuttle service also provides access to other restaurants at The Shops at La Cantera. We only tried Signature, the resort’s fine dining restaurant, and it was fantastic. The eclectic design and beautiful setting left no doubt that this is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Texas Hill Country. We started dinner with excellent, creative cocktails that were perfect for the season. The food was beautiful and delicious! Table favorite appetizers were oysters and beef tartare. The veal, scallop and sea bass entrees were all hits. There were also some good values on the wine list. Speaking of value, this restaurant is pricey but certainly worth it for special occasions and weekend getaways. We didn’t see any children in the dining room and probably would not bring kids ourselves.
Adults Only- While the resort takes pride in being family-friendly, SEVEN is an adult only floor. It offers a light breakfast, snacks throughout the day and happy hour including drinks and hors-d’oeuvres. We stayed on SEVEN and enjoyed the amenities that it provided. Topaz is an adult only infinity-style pool that overlooks the villas. Be sure to take a dip in the pool or enjoy a poolside cocktail.
We took this trip in April and were only there for 2 nights so we are already looking forward to our next stay there. I can’t wait to go back to that beautiful spa and my husband is excited to try out the other golf course next time. We both are interested in experiencing the other restaurants that we didn’t have a change to visit during our first stay. Can’t wait!
