It's (Virtual) Marathon/Half Marathon weekend and Houston. If you have already completed yours, are tackling it tomorrow or distance running is a goal of yours, good luck!!! You can do it!

One thing I get asked about a TON is running. I love it. It makes me feel good, relieve stress and is my favorite way to spend "me time."

I've tried many different tools and products but these are my absolute MUST HAVES!!! Plus, check out which products are worth a SPLURGE and which ones I SAVE on.

1.

Goodr Sunglasses - They are THE BEST! Lightweight, no bouncing/rubbing, fun colors and you really forget you are even wearing them. If you are in a sunny climate, definitely grab a pair or 2!!!

2.

Feetures Socks - Gah, I wish I had known about these years ago. They are soft, have the perfect amount to cushion and don't rub. I truly have had almost no blisters this training season after switching to these.

3.

One Bars - I eat half of the bar before a long run and the other half after. Protein packed and delish. My favorite flavors are Blueberry Cobbler, Glazed Donut and Peanut Butter Pie.

4.

Body Glide- Swipe it on anywhere you tend to rub. I use it on my bra line and it works wonders! Plus, one stick lasts a looooong time.

5.

Stingers - A friend gave one of these last year before the marathon and I was sold! I think they are great for quick energy the day of an event or for long training runs.

6.

Audible - I got so tired of listening to the same songs and even the same voices on podcasts, so I gave Audible a try. I am SO HAPPY I did. I looked forward to the longest of runs just so I could continue listening. Highly recommend a subscription if you are in a listening slump! Plus, many books are less expensive through Audible than the print copies.

7.

La Roche-Posay Facial Sunscreen - I love this facial sunscreen for my summer runs. It is lightweight and does not leave your skin feeling greasy. It is also easily absorbed so it doesn’t run and sting your eyes when you start to sweat. I’ve tried many less expensive products but this is by far the best I’ve used!

8.

The TriggerPoint Textured Massage Ball - This little ball is incredible! I sit down and roll in under my feet when my arches are sore and it feels amazing. Perfect little treat for your feet!

When to Splurge

Socks - Socks that are made for runners are WORTH IT! They have cushion where you need it and no excess material where you don’t. What you don’t want to do is buy inexpensive socks in bulk and then end up with blisters. I like Features and Thorlo.

Shoes - I learned the hard way that shoes really do make a difference especially when you are logging dozens of miles. I ended up with bursitis in my hip and couldn’t run for a month. My doctor appointment fees far exceeded the cost of a nice pair of running shoes. Now I buy Brooks Glycerine. I have probably owned 12 pairs of them. I just replace them with the newer model/colors when I need to.

When to Save

Shorts - Some of my favorite shorts to run in are $15 at Old Navy. They are as comfortable and get the same results as my $50+ shorts from the athletics store. PLUS I get so many complements on the prints!

Gym Membership- Who needs a gym when you have the great outdoors?!?! That’s one of my favorite things about running…you can just walk out the door and go. No monthly memberships and fees!
