May Book Club Pick

Pre-Read

I’m so excited to read and discuss The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. In April, I read I’ll Give You the Sun by the same author which I loved! There were so many discussion points that I wished I'd chosen it for the virtual book club. I am hoping this one will be just as great! Let’s get to reading!!!

Let’s Discuss!!!!

Did The Sky is Everywhere live up to my expectations??? YES!

Here’s the synopsis… “Adrift after her sister Bailey’s sudden death, Lennie finds herself torn between quiet, seductive Toby—Bailey’s boyfriend who shares Lennie’s grief—and Joe, the new boy in town who bursts with life and musical genius. Each offers Lennie something she desperately needs. One boy helps her remember. The other lets her forget. And she knows if the two of them collide, her whole world will explode.
As much a laugh-out-loud celebration of love as a nuanced and poignant portrait of loss, Lennie’s struggle to sort her own melody out out the noise around her makes for an always honest, often uproarious, and absolutely unforgettable read.”

Book Club Questions:

1) What did you think of Lennie and Toby finding comfort in each other? Do you think their grief could really minimize their values and loyalty to Bailey?

2) Lennie shuts Sarah out for weeks after Bailey’s death but when she finally decides to text, Sarah is right there waiting for her like a true (and very mature for high school) friend would be. Why do you think Bailey shut her best friend out?

3) I loved Gram and was so happy when she set Lennie straight about not having checked in on HER! Do you think Gram should have done that sooner? Do you think she should have told Lennie the truth about her mother sooner?

4) Should Joe have given Lennie another chance? Do you think your high school self would have?

5) Rate it! 1-5 stars!!!

To spread the love of books, I will gift TWO copies of the book club pick each month. Just comment on any book post and/or on @sarahtakesabreather on Instagram so that I know you are following and interested! I’ll randomly choose the winners during the first few days of each month.
