May Book Post
I was 5 for 5 with winners this month! I would recommend them ALL!!!
My summer book reviews will be shorter than they usually are because the kids are all out of school and we are busy, busy!
So…here we go!
Confess by Colleen Hoover was actually a second read for me which I don’t normally do, but it had been a while and I remember loving it so I gave it another go annnnnddd…Still loved it! It’s about a young single mother who is trying her best to make ends meet but being manipulated by the people who should be looking out for her most. She impulsively takes a one-time job helping out an artist at his art show and they hit it off although neither is at a point in their lives where a relationship seems beneficial—-she is trying to prove herself to her son’s grandparents and he is in too deep with family lies and deception. Heads up that there are some big trigger warnings here…death of a loved one, attempted rape, drug abuse. BUT it is really great!
Next I read a newer release by Colleen Hoover, Reminders of Him. If you enjoy Confess, you will enjoy Reminders of Him and vice versa. The 2 books have very different story lines but there are some major similarities between the 2. Kenna has served 5 years in prison for a horrible mistake that took her boyfriend’s life. While in prison, she gives birth to her deceased boyfriend’s child. After being released she heads back to the town where it all went wrong in hopes of being reunited with her daughter. For years Kenna has written letters to Scotty and we get a peek into their relationship with these letters. We also get to see how maybe Kenna did not deserve the sentence she was given. This book was heartbreaking but there was also so much hope. And oh my goodness some of the letters will have you boohooing. It’s worth the tears though, promise!
Book Lovers by Emily Henry was just released and you need to head directly to your favorite book store and #addtocart!!! Nora and Charlie are two headstrong professionals in the book industry who DID NOT hit it off upon their first meeting. Nora’s sister thinks that she is too devoted to work and convinces her to take a trip with her to a small town in Tennessee before her 3rd baby is due. As luck would have it, their destination is actually Charlie’s home town and he is there helping out his family. The two run into each other on multiple occasions and their disdain for each other begins to lessen. I LOVE Emily Henry’s character development and absolutely adored the banter between Nora and Charlie. I’ve enjoyed all of Henry’s books to date but this one takes the cake! Read it and let me know what you think!!!
Last month I read I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson and wished I had chosen it for the virtual book club because there was so much to discuss so I decided to scoop up another book by Nelson name it the Sarah Finds a Deal book club pick for May. I hope you guys enjoyed The Sky Is Everywhere as much as I did because I am ready to discuss it on the book club page! Meet me there!
I ended the month with Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis and it was such a sweet little page turner. Noelle finds herself trapped on the motorway during a blizzard with no way to contact her homebound mother who will be worrying. After a bit, a gentleman from the next car knocks on her window to offer help. Against her better judgment Noelle hops in Sam’s warm car while her phone charges. The two hit it off but when the road opens up, they both know that they will never see each other again and part ways. But, strangely they do see each other again, and again, and again! This book is a charmer! I enjoyed it and breezed right through. Trigger warning here for postpartum depression which I appreciated because I don’t feel like it is touched upon enough.
What are you reading now? Have you read any of these? What should I read next? Sound off in comments!!!
