June Books!

I read/ listened to 5 books this month. Three of them were AMAZING and the other two I just felt “meh” about.

Again, my summer book reviews will be shorter than they usually are because the kids are all out of school and we are busy, busy!

So…here we go!

I LOVED the Sarah Finds a Deal book club pick this month. Every Summer After by Carley Fortune has been getting rave reviews so it felt like a no-brainer for it to be the book club book in June and I am so glad that it lived up to they hype! Read about it and our discussion of it HERE!

Next up was The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams. I was hopeful about this one because I thought The Off Limits Rule (also by Adams) was adorable! But…I didn't love this one. It was a fine story…two dedicated athletes meet in high school and bond over their dedication to their respective sports. They remain in “the friend zone” throughout high school, lose touch in college and then cross paths again a few years later. They are forced into “fake dating” and you can let your imagination take it from there. ;) My problem was that the main character seemed really whiney and immature. I did listen to this book on audible so maybe if I hadn't have actually heard they whining I would feel differently. The book does get some really great reviews, so let us know in the comments if you’ve read this and agree or disagree with me!

I have no idea why I chose You Loved me Once by Corrine Michaels but I am so glad that I happened upon it because it was excellent! In facet, on more than once occasion I found myself debriefing the day’s reading to my husband and he was actually interested in how it was going to play out. Serenity Adams is a dedicated and accomplished oncologist. After losing her own mother to ovarian cancer, she vowed to devote her life to the cause and has done an amazing job thus far. She is heading up a medical trial that will hopefully give women the option to shrink tumors and operate rather than removing the uterus or ovaries thus taking away the patient’s ability to ever bear children. The trial starts and some questionable decisions are made (which can be argued both for or against depending on if you are taking a moral, medical or personal standpoint) and Serenity questions everything! Meanwhile their is new love and old love intertwined in the story and I had such a book crush on Westin! ;) Read it! You will not be disappointed!

I was counting down the days to the release of Part of your World by Abby Jimenez because I loved The Happy Ever After Playlist and Life’s Too Short so, so much!!! Alexis meets Daniel when she finds herself (and her car) in a ditch after swerving to avoid hitting a raccoon. Daniel helps her out and is on his merry way when shortly after they meet again at the small-town VFW which is the only place open for Alexis to make a pitstop before driving the rest of the way home. Daniel happens to be from this small town and seeing the newly familiar face that seems out of place, decides to take her under his wing for the night. The two hit it off but they realize nothing can come of this because they are from entirely different worlds…Daniel a carpenter in a small town who also runs a bed and breakfast during the town’s busy season; Alexis is another in a long family line of prestigious doctors who lives a couple of hours from Daniel’s small town. Oh, and she is 10 years older! Can they make it work? Do they even want to make it work? Read and find out! Heads up—-emotional abuse is a topic in this book.

I finished off with Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. This book gets amazing reviews and is a top pick of 2022 so far on Amazon which is why I was excited to dive into it, but for some reason I just didn’t enjoy it. I love the representation of women in science and also the main character’s attempt to change the status quo but I just wanted her to be generally happy in life WHILE she was living outside the proverbial box. Ugh. I wanted to love it, and maybe you will. Let us know your thoughts!
